Jay-Z's Charity Concert Lures Scalpers
Jay-Z is not happy about scalpers scooping up the majority of his charity concert tickets scheduled for September 11th. The tickets, which were economically priced on purpose, were sold out within an hour of being available online. Scalper websites had the tickets up for hundreds, even thousands of dollars, immediately after the initial tickets were sold.
"We are truly disheartened that certain individuals would choose to benefit from what is meant to be a 100% charitable event," said Jay-Z. "We do not support any profits made from reselling any ticket that was meant to be purchased by honest fans."
The concert, set on September 11th to commemorate the release of Jay-Z's iconic album The Blueprint and the subsequent release of The Blueprint III, will directly benefit the Fire Widows' and Children Benefit Fund and New York Police. Jay-Z, also known as Shawn Carter, is disappointed that true fans may not be able to make it due to the scalping situation.
Yours truly was spurned when trying to pick up tickets forthis once in a lifetime affair. Tickets were jacked up to $2,500 on amazon.com by 12:45 PM yesterday afternoon. It's a shame that Jay-Z tickets are such a hot commodity that scalpers will take advantage of the situation. I hope this experience doesn't sour him on making economically priced tickets in the future.
